Micah's Birth Story

His story begins with God speaking his life into our family.  John knew long before me that we would have baby #3...I took some convincing!  But the Lord let me know in His perfect timing and provided much support and grace through John while I went through one of the toughest pregnancies I've ever experienced.  I had a feeling in my first trimester that we were having a boy, as the Lord gave me a couple dreams in which I was holding a baby boy.  I was overjoyed to have it confirmed at our 20 week ultrasound.  But it was just a few days later that the doctor gave us the news that his little kidneys were enlarged and that we needed to go to another hospital about an hour away to have a better look at them.

Fast forward to the day before he was born.  We were feeling pretty ready for his arrival...and had a feeling Micah would come early.  John was just finishing up his bunk bed project for Joel & Ellie a couple hours before hard labor would hit me.  A 30 hour project to be exact!  I was feeling yucky Sunday morning at church...kind of just thought I had eaten too much broccoli the night before lol!  I took a short nap in the afternoon and then proceeded to go over to my neighbors house to visit and let the kids play for an hour or so.  Sometime around11:45pm/midnight, after only sleeping for a few minutes I suppose...I awoke to some really painful contractions.  No doubt in my mind that it was time to get to the hospital!  John had everything ready to go, as he was fully convinced the baby was coming soon.  He had the bags and kids loaded and our emergency childcare on the way within 15 minutes.  We had picked the best babysitters in the world (besides grandparents of course...as my mom's arrival was still a little more than a week away), so my heart was at complete peace that Joel & Ellie would be in godly, safe, fun hands!  I was really surprised Micah was going to arrive so soon!  I was hoping he would wait until after my baby shower on the 11th... My heart raced with excitement and mixed emotions...

The half an hour of hard contractions had already gotten me to 4 cm dialated.  The delivery team was called in!  Then the painful contractions were replaced with the 6 pokes to get my IV in.  I wasn't happy they didn't listen to me when I requested the anesthesiologist to put it in after 3 unsuccessful tries!  Shortly after that, I got my spinal, which went smoothly, and a little pressure and Micah was here in the world!!!  We were told later on that at the moment he was born there was a loud crack of thunder; unusual for us on the island to have a thunderstorm!  And how appropriate with name, Micah Kincaid, meaning "Who is like the Lord?" and "battle leader".

It was a wonderful feeling to know he was with us and doing well!  His gentle features, perfectly round little face, and full head of soft brown hair made me fall in love instantly.

Joel & Ellie came to meet Micah in the afternoon on his first day of life.  Of course they were smitten!  They each held him several times.  Joel said he loved baby Micah many times and Ellie marveled at his tiny fingers and nails.  It was very special to see their love and affection for their baby brother!

On day 2 of our hospital stay and Micah's life, he had an ultrasound of his kidneys, which showed them to be normal sized and functioning kidneys.  Our little baby boy, full of His miracle healing!

For me, it was a pretty optimal recovery from the c-section.  I was up and walking around within the first 12 hours.  With nursing going well and my pain under control, we got to leave on Tues around 6pm.  God is good and faithful.  And now the journey of our family of 5 has begun...
